Brian J. Chan has been specifically identified for early promotion to senior airman in the U.S. Air Force. The airman was awarded the new rank ahead of other Air Force members by a “Below-The-Zone” promotion board, which considered the airman’s time in grade, time in service, job performance, military knowledge, bearing, exceptional qualifications, self-improvement efforts, and best overall record. The Below-the-Zone program provides an opportunity for exceptionally well-qualified airman first class to a one-time consideration for promotion to senior airman six months prior to the fixed fully-qualified phase point. To be selected and considered for the promotion, the airman must meet specific requirements outlined in Air Force regulations and must be recommended by the commander. Chan, a communication and navigation specialist with two years of military service, is assigned to the 55th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, Neb. Silverman, a physical medicine flight commander with 16 years of military service, is assigned to Dover Air Force Base, Del. She is the daughter of Charles and Betty Fox of Hearthside Court, Louisville, Ky. Her husband, Lt. Col. Shawn Silverman, is the son of Gene and Surrell Silverman of Watchwater Way, Rockville, Md. The colonel graduated in 1987 from Henderson County High School, Henderson, Ky., and received a bachelor’s degree in 1991 from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. She earned a master’s degree in 1993 from Baylor University, Waco, Texas.

Pena-Serrano has been decorated with the Air Medal, which is awarded to any person who, while serving in any capacity in or with the armed forces of the United States, has distinguished himself or herself by meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight. The medal is primarily intended to recognize those individuals who are on current crew member or non-crew member flying status which requires them to participate in aerial flight on a regular and frequent basis in the performance of their primary duties. Awards may be made to recognize single acts of merit or heroism or for meritorious service. The airman participated in combat operations over Afghanistan and Iraq in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, respectively. The medal recipient flew combat battlespace control missions aboard the E-3 Airborne Warning and Control Systems aircraft while assigned to the 963rd Airborne Expeditionary Air Control Squadron in Southwest Asia, Persian Gulf region. He is the son of Carlos Serrano and Martha D. Pena of W. Placita Hojalata, Tucson Ariz. Lt. Pena-Serrano flew combat battlespace control missions aboard the E-3 AWACS aircraft while assigned to the 93rd Expeditionary Air Control Squadron, Al Dhafra Air Base, Abu Dhabi. Pena-Serrano, an air weapons officer with three years of military service, graduated in 2000 from Pueblo High School, and in 2004 from the University of Arizona, both of Tucson.

Monico has been selected as the Air Mobility Command Outstanding Active Duty Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Field Grade Officer of the year (Wing level and below) for 2007. Selection was based on the individual’s exemplary duty performance, job knowledge, leadership qualities, notable accomplishments, significant self-improvement, and community service and support. Major Monico is currently assigned as the intelligence flight commander, 15th Air Mobility Operations Squadron, Travis Air Force Base, in Fairfield, Calif. Air Force Master Sgt. Daniel L. Amic has retired from the U.S. Air Force after 26 years of faithful military service. He is the son of William and Vivian Amic of Cassia Blvd., Satellite Beach, Fla. At his retirement ceremony, Master Sgt. Amic was presented with the Air Force Commendation Medal which is awarded to those individuals who demonstrate outstanding achievement or meritorious service in the performance of their duties on behalf of the Air Force. Sergeant Amic distinguished himself through his superb leadership and vast administrative experience which were critical in the successful prosecution of the ongoing Global War on Terrorism. He was dynamic in planning and coordinating the dental clinics 266,000 dollar digital ex-ray upgrade. His overhaul of the clinics’ business case plan reaped a 23 percent production increase. Prior to retiring, Master Sgt. Amic served as a noncommissioned officer in charge of the Dental Flight, 49th Aeromedical Dental Squadron, Holloman Air Force Base, Alamogordo, N.M. He is a 1980 graduate of Satellite High School, Satellite Beach. Amic will be retiring to the Anderson, S.C. area.

Rampone has been decorated with the Air Medal, which is awarded to any person who, while serving in any capacity in or with the armed forces of the United States, has distinguished himself or herself by meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight. The medal is primarily intended to recognize those individuals who are on current crew member or non-crew member flying status which requires them to participate in aerial flight on a regular and frequent basis in the performance of their primary duties. Awards may be made to recognize single acts of merit or heroism or for meritorious service. The airman participated in combat operations over Afghanistan and Iraq in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, respectively. The medal recipient flew combat battlespace control missions aboard the E-3 Airborne Warning and Control Systems aircraft while assigned to the 963rd Airborne Expeditionary Air Control Squadron in Southwest Asia, Persian Gulf region. Rampone is a pilot regularly assigned to the 963rd Airborne Air Control squadron at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City, Okla. The captain has served in the military for seven years. He is the son of Al and Barbara Rampone of S.E. 350, Knob Noster, Mo. His wife, Tracy, is the daughter of R.P. Connell, and Charlotte Connell, both of Milan, Tenn.

Jordan, and Cay P. Jordan, both of Rensselaer, Ind. In 1995, Meyer graduated from Wes Central High School, Francesville, Ind., and received a bachelor’s degree in 1999 from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind.
