Air Force Airman 1st Class Joshua T. Fitzgerald has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. He is the son of Lorie Beneke of Smoketree Drive, Forest, Va., and E. Arnold Fitzgerald Jr. of Lexington Turnpike, Amherst, Va. Fitzgerald is a 2006 graduate of Jefferson Forest High School, Forest.

Maj. Timothy R. Air Force Maj. Timothy R. Lawrence has been decorated with the Meritorious Service Medal. The medal is awarded to members of the U.S. Armed Forces who distinguish themselves by either outstanding achievement or meritorious service to the United States in noncombat situations. Lawrence received the medal for his distinguished service and outstanding performance while serving as assistant Director of Operations and F-15C Mission Commander for the 33rd Operations Support Squadron, 33rd Fighter Wing at Eglin Air Force Base, Valparaiso, Fla. His superior management abilities directly contributed to the success of the wing’s mission. The F-15C pilot has served in the military for 14 years. He is the son of Betty Lawrence of E. 10th St., Mobridge, S.D., and grandson of Jackie Birkeland of Dupree, S.D. His wife, Linnaea, is the daughter of Larry and Audrey Johnson of Iberia Ave., Sparta, Wis. Lawrence graduated in 1984 from Mobridge High School, and received a bachelor’s degree in 1989 from Iowa State University, Ames.
