Ian D. Ritchie has received an Air Force ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) college scholarship offer to attend a selected host college or university. The cadet was selected to receive the scholarship certificate on the basis of comprehensive tests, high school scholastic achievement, and extra-curricular activities. The majority of Air Force ROTC scholarships cover full college/university tuition, provide textbook allowance, and pay most laboratory or incidental fees. In addition, at least a $300 tax-free monthly allowance is paid to recipients during the academic year. The estimated value of the scholarship depends on the student’s choice of school and type of scholarship offered. Upon graduation from college and completion of the ROTC program, the cadet will receive a bachelor’s degree and a commission of second lieutenant in the Air Force. Ritchie is the son of Mark C. and Lisa A. Ritchie of Teaberry Drive, Carlisle, Pa. He is a 2009 graduate of Cumberland Valley High School, Mechanicsburg, Pa.

Air Force Maj. Adam L. Rutherford has graduated from the Air Force Institute of Technology, Graduate School of Engineering and Management at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio. The graduate school allows students from all branches of the U.S. military, civilians, and international students to complete graduation requirements in one of the six departments at the School of Engineering and Management. Students are provided the opportunity to learn and exercise a variety of quantitative and qualitative concepts, skills, and techniques to integrate engineering, science, and policy issues into a decision-making framework for optimum installation management and technical services operations management. Graduates are capable of applying concepts, methods, and tools related to planning, directing, and controlling resources (people, material, equipment and funds) in an operations management context. Most AFIT graduates fill technical positions requiring advanced academic degrees in their respective field of study from across the Department of Defense. Rutherford earned a master’s of science degree in systems engineering. He is the son of Rob L. Rutherford of Donni Lane, Junction City, Ore., and Pam M. Rutherford of Edgehill Road, Springfield, Ore. His wife, Kristie, is the daughter of Steven J. Henderson of Brooks Ave., Imbler, Ore., and Janice M. Henderson of 14th St., LaGrande, Ore. Rutherford has served in the military for 14 years. The major graduated in 1990 from Thurston High School, Springfield, and received a bachelor’s degree in 1995 from Oregon State University, Corvallis. He earned a master’s degree in 2001 from Webster University, St. Louis, Mo.

Dustin D. Mayes has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force after completing the Air Force ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) program and graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University, Bloomington. ROTC is an educational program designed to provide college students an opportunity to be Air Force officers after completing military study courses and bachelor’s degree requirements at a host college or university. The program is the largest and oldest source of commissioned officers for the Air Force, with a mission to produce and develop highly qualified military leaders and better citizens for America. The officers pursue their Air Force careers in air, space and cyberspace fields and other scientific, technical and administrative professions as leaders helping to meet the challenges of the 21st century and beyond.
